As mentioned previously, I will be posting content from my email series here for the benefit of TBers.
This post is based on the second installment in the WCFD series.
What we're going to talk about today is basically how NOT to build a successful business.
Useful as a standalone topic? Maybe, but the real value is in the fact that EVERYONE makes these mistakes!
I originally put this component together hoping to help people avoid making the same mistakes. Reality is that people seem to make them anyway, and I am slowly coming to think that these mistakes HAVE to be made as part of the growth and development process!
So the intention of this module now is simply to flag things. When they happen to you, or if they already have - you will be able to say "oh gee, yeah, that guy Gaz told me about this".
The main thing is, you will know that others have been there before you, and you shouldn't let it affect that vital mindset stuff.
So, without further ado, here's a list of mistakes you WILL make, one way or the other...
1. Fear of approaching friends/family
This will especally affect you if you're involved in network marketing. The error is not succumbing to fear, but in assuming you need to try to sell the business to your friends and family.
Quite simply, you do NOT have to do that these days!
2. Lack of Persistence
When you first start implementing a technique, or make a start with a particular product, you will see very few (if any) results. The trouble is, it is all too easy to give up on the thing, and turn your attention to something else.
3. Lack of Focus
Closely related to the persistence issue is the situation where you "hedge your bets", and try to work with several things at once. The theory sounds nice - multiple streams of income, a safety net if one of the streams fails....
It's all nonsense. Nothing delivers success more reliably, more effectively and more rapidly than razor-sharp FOCUS.
4. Disorganised Approach
Trust me, I have NEVER been described as an organised individual. I hated filofaxes, I hated lists, and I didn't see the point of daily plans/routines for anyone not in the armed services.
When I realised that my haphazard approach was killing all chances of success, the effect was so profound that I wrote myself some online tools to help me get organised!
That was the sole (initial) motivation for The Express Marketer!
If you are like I was, then do yourself a favour right now by making a serious commitment to changing your attitude.
It's not easy - I actually found it easier to quit smoking - but you will thank yourself for making the effort. Promise.
5. Looking for External Answers
THERE IS NO SILVER BULLET.
Read that line over and over - let your grey matter absorb the truth contained in that line, and remove all hopes and thoughts from your mind that you will find THE system that "does it all for you".
You have more hope of seeing a mermaid riding on a unicorn.
However, there ARE systems that can help you, there are tools that will automate some of your processes. But in all cases there will be one common component - you will need to take some form of action, on an ongoing basis.
Think of it this way - a car can make travelling a lot easier. You can travel 100 miles a lot more easily by car, and a lot faster than walking or running.
But the car does not do everything for you - even an automatic! You need to operate the steering wheel, operate the pedals, and even refuel from time to time.
When you see systems advertised as "does it all for you" just bear in mind the sub-heading of "as long as you are driving it".
You will make many more mistakes than this, of that I have no doubt (based on personal experience), but I hope you can start to see a common theme appearing.
It all goes back to the first module - Mindset.
Read through those 5 items again and think about how your attitudes, perspectives and mindset might affect the way you deal with each of them.
Now consider how maintaining a positive "can do" mindset will allow all these mistakes to be fixed.
The fact is, if your attitude is one of "I will do everything necessary to ensure success" then the solutions will always present themselves.
Get out your journal again and write down some of the mistakes you have made, or some of the things that "didn't work out".
Now be honest with yourself and realise how the right thinking could have led to a totally different outcome.
I encourage you to put 100% into this exercise because doing so will actually initiate the process of inner change that is needed to become the success you want to be.
As always, I wish you all the very best
Gaz
