I have two blogs that I currently write on, and one on myspace as well. One is a Wordpress blog but I do not have it hosted by Wordpress. I love blogging and it does bring traffic to both of my sites.

I agree with Gazza it would be useful to share ideas and support each other.

Quick question to all the members of this group - how many of you have blogs already, are working on a blog right now, or plan to in the near future?

Might be interesting and useful for people to share their blog links and have a bit of peer support going on?

Gazza .. What is the best way to contact you for someone who is not a part of "That's Business" yet ... I want him to talk with you about the site he is wanting to build for as little as possible :~) but have the most impact. You understand .... Thank you kindly.

Thanks guys - Martin, simple sites are where it's at with home business and the "lower end" of the scale with small business.

Flash sites, very carefully crafted graphical works of art, and so on are all fantastic IF you want to get over a certain ambience, or present your work in a suitable visual environment.

Home business, online marketing, sole traders and so on need to get the message across, they need their visitors to stick around (and not disappear when the pages take an age to load) and they need more of a direct marketing style.

People in this sector generally have a low or no budget, so the question is what would make the most sense; a mega-bucks "brand building" TV campaign, or a highly focused classified ad in a specialist publication?

Just plucking two extremes out of the air there - but hopefully you see my point!

The hardest part, from my perspective, is educating people on that point. People get used to rich online experiences and think that's what they need on their site. Trouble is, their potential clients aren't necessarily on broadband, their potential clients just want to know how they can help them - if they want an immersive online experience, they'll probably go to one of the flash game sites anyway :)

Gazza: great advise, support, and mentoring.
I like the simple Wordpress sites that get to the point and deliver what the consumer wants & needs.
Flash is nice but sometimes forgets the valuable content needed.

Thanks for your response. That was exactly what I was hoping for. Someone to provide options. I plan on doing my research. I just don't want to make the research my JOB. I joined this group to learn how to promote my company and create a worthwhile web page. Your input is exactly what I want.

Lori - $4.99 per month is fairly typical for the lower end of the scale, I guess it depends on the details of what comes with that package.

Even with the type of templated solution Intuit provide, I see they also offer a service where you can get a web designer to do the work for you (obviously for a fee). This points to one of the main reasons I encourage people here to get to grips with this stuff if time permits.

Having a decent knowledge of how a blog site fits together and so on, can help you decide on whether a hosting provider is right for you, and helps you avoid creating sites that don't quite cut it.

As an example - compare http://equilibriumhealthcare.info/ with http://equilibriumhealthcare.biz/

One of those sites was created using a cheap SiteBuilder package, by someone who couldn't afford a traditional web design solution. The other was created by me as a demo of what can be achieved without breaking the bank. Can you tell which is which?

Having a small amount of knowledge can be incredibly useful, so it's often time worth investing.
